I will guarantee that the reviews will suck.

They will expect Cadillac like ride from a pick up for under $20K. And even complain if it does get 30 MPG saying we gave up the luxury of a modern US pickup, we should be getting better. Forgetting it will most likely beat any new pick up on the road for Mileage.

The limited edition Scorpio weighs 5522 + a little due to always rounding down. The fact that the engine can push that with no problem, albeit with less smog control, is impressive.

Are we talking about the TR series of trucks or the SUV. I would bet the SUV does weigh a lot more but 1100 lbs is huge.

I am comparing the Scorpio Limited Edition which is already available with the 2.2 liter diesel with the specs of the new trucks.

Actually I made a mistake, the Limited Edition weighs 2652 kg, which is 5742 pounds. That means the SUV is 1200 pounds heavier then the 4x4 TR40, and 1562 pounds heavier then the 2x4 TR20.

The biggest problem I see in all of the specs for the Scorpio is that it is "estimated" to take 14 seconds to got from zero to 100 kph (not sure how an estimate wound up in the spec sheets). I missed that at first since the article said acceleration was good (no 2010 vehicle sold in the US is that slow)

I have not lost my faith yet. I fully expect that these truck will be here soon enough and as for the price, it seems to be competitive with other offerings on the market. Yeah Mahindra is taking there sweet ole time, but they only have one chance to get this right. They don't want to come into the market and establish a horrible reputation like Kia, Hyundai and others have done. I think they are trying hard to work out all the bugs with this M-Hawk engine and all of its state of the art technology. Just wait and your patience will be rewarded.

I had a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD and with all my offroad goodies it weighed around 5000lbs. At that weight it wasn't a dog, but it did not have the passing power my 2009 VW Jetta TDI has. That being said, I along with several others had our bones stock Liberty CRD's dynoed and they made around 350ft lbs of torque which was much more than jeep claimed at 295ft lbs. My Liberty consistently averaged 24mpg and I averaged about 27mpg on the freeway.

It does concern me a bit that they are trying to move a 5500lb SUV with an estimated 236ft lbs of torque. It would have to be a dog compared to other vehicles on the market. I think it would take 400ft lbs to move a vehicle that size with ease. That being said I think the TR20 would be the perfect sized vehicle for this engine.

On closer look it is a dog. The article says it accelerates well but then in the specs it says they "estimate" 0-100kph takes about 14 seconds (I am not sure how an estimate got in the specs).

And I am not sure what the weight is. One article said their test SUV had a "kerb" (I think english for curb) weight of 200 pounds more.

I would post a link to the SUV but twice when I tried posting it forum moderators would not post it. I think one post by me was inappropriate but also I suspect it is posted elsewhere.

I still call shenanigans on the 5500 lb estimate. That is first generation Cayanne, Toureg and Range Rover weight. We know it won't be near that. still the 2.2 mHawk will be taxed to move any of the three vehicles very quickly and it will certainly be slow under load.

I guess at best 0-60 in 10 seconds for the vehciles unladen.

I have the curb weight of the TR40 4x4 at around 4532 lbs which is pretty heavy. I am guessing the the SUV will be more like 4800-5000 lbs. The 5500 just seems heavy to me. There are several things that concern me about the SUV, it is a pretty big ride, according to the specs it should be slightly larger than my 96 Toyota Land Cuiser. What concerns me is I sold my land cruiser because it was such a dog. It had a huge 4.5L inline 6 engine that put out 212hp and 275ft lbs of torque, but it just did not have the guts to move a vehicle that size with ease. If Mahindra plans to try to move a large 4800lbs SUV with 140 hp and 236 ft lbs of torque they're crazy. It just won't happen.

I've got a listing of specs on the Indian Scorpio SUV as 2510 kgs. which translates to nearly 5534 lbs. Here's where I found it: Mahindra Scorpio, New Cars India, Get Mahindra Scorpio New Car Price

Also, they list an engine torque maximum of 290 Newton/Metres which converts to 214 lb./ft., less than the 236 listed on the Mahindra N.A. spec sheet for the TRx trucks., and 120 b.h.p. instead of 140h.p.
