Toyota's 4.0L gas engine puts out 266 ft.lbs and my 2005 is rated for 6500# of towing. My '93 dodge Cummins 5.9L was rated @ 160 hp and 400 ft.lbs. The power doesn't seem bad to me, probably similar to Volkswagen's TDI.

Agree. It'll all be in the torque multiplication in the tranny and axles...

I believe this is information on the SUV and not on the pickup truck variant, but it is a reference point with the engine that we're supposed to get someday.

Fuel economy is posted at 10.5 kmpl city and 15.4kmpl highway
So 16.5 seconds or 18.3 seconds. Either way that translates to "painfully slow."

To put that in perspective, a 1981 Plymouth Reliant (2.2 Auto) went 0-60 mph in 14.0 seconds. Ugh. No I'm serious look here: "Plymouth, Pontiac, Porsche" 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for Factory Stock Vehicles

So, I would hope that this little truck would be in the 8 to 10 second range. Otherwise, hauling any kind of weight or towing a trailer would knock this thing on it's arse.

Agree, anything more than 10ish seconds is gonna be a tough to deal w/, at least here in the New England Megaplex (Boston-Hartford-NYC corridor) where ya don't get a break trying to merge... On the other hand, we do have many Priuses (Prii?) and I think they're pretty laggy also.
Pretty sure my F350 can do better than 9 seconds to 60, but then, other than a big-rig, who's gonna challenge me when I pull out...?

I tried to make some corrections to these numbers, but I don't have anything conclusive. To split hairs, 16.5 sec. to 100kmh is more like 16.0 sec, but the other difference is the weight of the SUV is much greater than the weight of the pickups- especially the 2 door model. It was easy to find both the curb weight and gross weight for the trucks, but not so easy for the Scorpio- some sites list gross weight at 2510kg, some say kerb weight is 2510kg. It looks like that number could be the curb weight, if so then the SUV is roughly 1000 pounds heavier than the trucks. If that number is the gross weight, then the SUV is lighter than the trucks, and I don't think that's the case.
Either way, our car community these days puts greater emphasis on 0-60 acceleration than I do. My little Nissan does fine accelerating onto the expressway (only held up by the driver ahead who thinks it is the cell phone dialing lane instead of an acceleration lane) when empty, but load it down with a bunch of cargo in the back and it's a dog. I expect this truck to do better in those cases. If the guy in the Maserati behind me wants to smoke my doors off when the road gets open, he can go right ahead- I can carry more plywood than he can.

That made me curious, so I dug around a little.
From this site: 2010 Toyota Prius specifications released : 50 mpg, 1.8L, 134hp, Ni-MH, solar roof option | The Energy Collective

Quote:
With a larger 1.8L engine and a net horsepower of 134hp, internal tests show that the 2010 Toyota Prius 0-60 mph (~0-100 km/h) timing has dropped to 9.8 seconds...
So I really hope these trucks can at least keep up with a Prius...

My 05 crd liberty is gutless compared to both of mine....

It's not that "light" on power IMHO. I have an interest in this truck. I currently use the cummins 4bt which is 105hp, and 265tq in 6000~7000lb vehicles. Sure, they can not pull 15,000 lb trailers, but my first truck consistently got better than 24mpg.....

And here it is pulling..... Thats 4.56gears and 38" tall tires. First try was 3rd low range, followed up with 2nd low range. The other video is 4.88 gears 38" tires and a hay barn that took a 100hp tractor to move.....
