Well Plan B for me would be to keep the benz for a while till a small diesel pick up hits the market. My car is running good. :-) I just got the turbo working again. I want to post pictures soon.

Unfortunately, if Mahindra doesn't come out with these little buggers I may shy away from a truck in general. I am more so looking for a vehicle that can handle a little adverse weather [Colorado Springs] and I was drawn toward the Mahindra's since they offer the fuel efficient diesel in a small truck. I would love to purchase an American small truck with a diesel, but until Detroit gets burned by something like this Mahindra, it won't be happening any time soon.

Looks like I guess I would just drive my Sonata to death.

I checked out the facts on the Silverado hybrid pickup thinking it might qualify as an alternative, but not for me. 21 city/22 hwy mpg, crew cab only, and starts around 40k. It looks like it will tow pretty well, though.

They actually make those things? Never seen one in person (and this is a big GM truck area) and never see them advertised.
I called the local dealer when they first came out, he said at the time that he didn't have any to look at but would be happy to take a deposit... Sure, THAT's going to happen...
Bed is too short for me regardless.

cheers,

MD, was going to ask about pics of the TD. I keep getting close to buying one for a veggie-project but always something else in the way (like my kid's college bills...)
Would be very interested in the details regarding your conversion. There are several "flavors" out there. A guy I know did a scratch-built 240D. It was pretty cool (really really slow of course) but the body got too swiss-cheesey to deal with...

Default My plan "B"

Being almost retired and heavily involved in the Suzuki offroading community, I will be looking at a truck - probably extended cab - with the necessary comfort and towing capacity to haul my trailered Samurai, assorted camping and other event-related equipment.

I have owned two Supercab Rangers and, although they are nice trucks, they are not available equipped for the hauling that I want to do.

The current "plan b" choice is an gas-powered (duh!) F-150 supercab or crewcab. Properly equipped, it would do the job and get "okay" gas mileage. Fortunately, I have a used Tracker that, as my current daily driver, gets good gas mileage. I can drive it when the F150 would be impractical fuel- and size-wise.

I am part of a Ford family and can get the employee discounts. Dodge and GM would have to pitch an incredible deal and convince me that I would get better service after the sale than the local Ford dealer that I have been doing business with for 25 years...

All that said, a smaller domestic Diesel pickup like the Mahindra TR series sure would be nice... especially if it were sold to me by a Ford dealer!

Default 1'st Diesel Available

That's easy, first small/mid-size 4x4 diesel pick-up that gets here.
Until then the Jetta TDI will have to do.

Did you know the Jetta will hold a 16-foot extension ladder inside,
not easy but it fits.

Mahindra has the lead. . . 2010
VW Amarok AWD . . . possible but not likely to get here
new Ranger 4x4 2011 . . . if Ford has the brains to bring the diesel here
