Cool Is this a joke?

One must wonder at this point is this entire Mahindra Truck in the US a joke? It's now going on two years since they started this effort and have dragged numerous followers through the process while doing a great job of keeping us in the dark. The company behavior is that of a mom and pop sole proprietorship, let alone a major importer of vehicles.

Would you really feel safe investing $25K in a truck backed by a company having supply issues in it's own country? They can't keep to a plan and their U.S. importer can't communicate.

GV has been completely quiet within months of a huge launch which means something is seriously wrong. Every bit of information they've provided has been proven wrong. If I am wrong, please show me an accurate statement they've ever made regarding the launch.

The trucks were going to be produced in Ohio but when I checked the local news there, not one story of this. I live in a small town and if Mahindra were talking about building trucks here the news would be talking about it big time. Now, they are going to build them in Canada!

Mr. Perez and GV are pulling something here. If you want to keep waiting go ahead. I am going to the auto show this week in Kanas City and looking for a vehicle. Probably get the VW Jetta Sport Wagon Diesel. Oh yes, has Mahindra showed up at an auto show, ever? Funny, if I were bringing a new vehicle into the U.S. THIS YEAR I would certainly be at the shows.

Good luck guys. I'll check in next year and see how you're doing with the waiting thing.

Dude, you need to search around the site a bit. Andy (our long-suffering leader) has been personally invited to GV HQ to do a touch/feel/drive of the US test mules. He couldn't go but one of our resident dealers, MotorcarsMahindra from Ohio is able to go and will be there tomorrow! These test mules have been documented around the US recently, see Mahindra Planet's blog reports.

I've called my nearest "dealer" in Acton Ma. He tells me he should have trucks in May. We've heard similar stories from other east coast dealers.

True, the information from both M&M and especially GV has been atrocious to date, but it really is starting to look like we'll have real vehicles to talk about soon.

Yeah, I sound like I work for them. I do not, I'm just a mechanical engineer and shade-tree gearhead. But I am very interested in what could be a small
F350 (my current ride), and that excites me.
take care, see ya next year. Look us up, we'll share pics of our TRs with ya!

cheers,
-pete

Default This is no joke.

I've been swinging back and forth from frustrated, disgusted and fed up to "what the heck, it may happen eventually". If I had to buy a truck in the next 60 days, I'd go ahead and get something that was actually for sale, not something promised and broken promised. I've been driving this '93 Nissan pickup since '93, and it just keeps going. I've decided to give it to my brother for a spare, the thing only has 111,000 miles on it but resale isn't squat (so now he's the one that can't wait for Mahindra to get here). I'm ready for something new, but it just isn't worth it to settle for something I can't get excited about. I do have a plan B truck picked out, but it is only in case of emergency, otherwise I'll just hang out on the sidelines. I have to keep in mind that even when the Mahindra trucks show up I might not buy one, I've been waiting over a year just to take one for a test drive. The biggest problem is that our market right now is not offering what I want, and GV hasn't delivered, either. If it were between two trucks I wanted, I'd go for the one that was sitting on the ground. I have faith that sooner or later some company somewhere will bring to market a truck that makes me grab my checkbook and run to a dealer, if there were one here now I wouldn't be putting up with this garbage the Mahindra people are dragging us through. So it's love and hate, and wait. and wait. If you have a plan B that makes you happy, I envy you.

I look forward to the reports of this vehicle so I can buy one next year or the year after.
I ain't touching this thing until it gets so real world use and some people can report on it.
I still think it will be underpowered for my liking, but I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Makes you wonder how some online mags (pickuptruck.com) were able to line up demo drives. Bet they had to pester and educate the heck out of both GV and Mahindra.

That is what I am kind of worried about. I am hoping the torque saves the vehicle and the transmission too. Hard to say at this point, hopefully MotoMahi's review will be backed up by some rough performance numbers for an empty vehicle, loaded vehicle, and towing.

I flip from not even considering this to looking forward to test driving one. From reading Australian reviews I gather Mahindra was designed to compete with the Chinese imports and not Nissan or Toyota. I am assuming they have made huge improvements in the quality of the interior and safety.

I don't expect a Mahindra to do nearly as well in crash tests as a Frontier or Tacoma or have nearly the acceleration. I expect the Mahindra will seem very slow, especially with an automatic. My biggest concern is whether the Mahindra maintain highway speeds towing 5000 pounds.

We won't know for several years how the body holds up to salt. I don't expect it be as good as a Frontier or Tacoma, but hopefully it's better than the Hondas of the 70's and 80's.

You might be right, Toyota has been getting a lot of rave reviews over their acceleration lately
