Default Hi. I love compact oilburners

Register to stop seeing this ad!

Hi, my name is Spence and I live in northern Utah. I go by the screen name 4D55 Performance Inc, because I specialize in modifying 83-85 Mitsubishi Turbo Diesel Pickups which are equipped with the Mitsubishi 4D55 engine.

I joined the Mahindra forum because I plan on purchasing a Mahindra vehicle in the next year. It seems like it taking forever for these things to hit the market.

My current daily driver is an 85 Mitsubishi turbo diesel pickup. It has been heavily modified from end to end. It has a freshly rebuilt 2.3L Turbo Diesel. Some of the modification to the engine include a ported and polished head with roller rockers, water cooled turbo, high flow water pump, custom injection pump, custom intake and exhaust, and much more. I have retained the original KM132 transmission but modified it, so it has 3.967 first gear ratio instead of 3.74. Behind the transmission is a divorced 5.0:1 Atlas transfer case which provides a 102:1 Crawl Ratio. The truck rides on 2008 Jeep Rubicon Axles with Elockers and 5.13 gears. Fox coilovers provide an excellent ride both on and offroad. Other mods include fiberglass fenders, ARB front bumper, rock sliders, defender roofrack, offroad lighting and bunch of other things I can't remember. The only thing left to do paint and add some original graphics.

My other vehicle is the much coveted 2009 Jetta Sport Wagen TDI with 6 speed Manual, Panoramic Roof and Navigation. It's pretty much stock and it will stay that way. I bought it to replace my 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD and it was the best decision I ever made, the Liberty diesel were a complete disaster. I love my Jetta.

Here's an older pic of the truck, I try to get an updated pic after I paint it in a few weeks, it looks much different these days with all the offroad goodies on it.

Nice ride. I like those and the Isuzu pup. I don't think the pup had a turbo. The Ford ranger had a diesel I think was mitzu.

Yeah, Ford did use a variation of the Mitsu 2.3L in their pickups from 85-87. The Mitsubishi Turbo Diesels were far superior to other diesels of the 80's as far as efficiency and performance are concerned. There were over a dozen different diesel compact pickups in the US between 1980-1987 with several brand like GM, Isuzu, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Dodge all using atleast two different diesel applications. While others like Jeep, Mazda and VW only used one diesel application. The Mitsubishi Turbo Diesels not only out performed all other diesel engines, but in 1983 they were the fastest available factory pickup available to the public and that includes fullsize trucks as well. With a 0-60 time in 11.9sec they were fast for there time. All other compact diesels 0-60 times ranged between 17-26 seconds. And like I said earlier, they also were more efficient than most compacts with the only exception being the VW Caddy, if you can call the VW caddy a truck.
