Default Scorpio road test and review

Register to stop seeing this ad!

This is a review (a few months old now) of the Indian Scorpio, but it looks like they're planning a global vehicle, since many changes were made that make it similar to the vehicles planned for here. There is some information that may answer some questions about the details on the pickups, also- like the adjustable headlamp deal (in the photos is a control to manually adjust the level of the headlight beam). Anyway, these vehicles may or may not show up here, but I found it interesting to peruse anyway: Mahindra Scorpio VLX 2.2 mHawk BS IV Road Test - Sting in the tail - CarWale.com

Oh, note that the interior plastic still comes off as cheap in this review.

14 plus seconds 0-60 time, ouch!

at least is is improving, per the article but that won't cut it here. some chassis/suspension tuning, materials quality and drivetrain improvements are needed. so basically everything

I know its an apples and oranges comparison since it isn't the US tune motor and not a 6 speed tranny.

how is right, 14 seconds is way-long, and that's w/ one? person in the car and a manual tranny where one can spin-up the turbo prior to popping the clutch. Turbo-diesel auto's aren't the quickest off the line, trust me (but I bet I can get to 60 in less than 14 seconds)...

Even more revealing: 10 kpl average and 7.6 kpl worst, translates to 23.5 mpg average and 17.8 mpg worst (with the manual trans and micro-hybrid feature). What are the automatics going to get? 30mpg?

My wife's '08 Xterra gets 17mpg average with a 6-speed manual and 265hp V-6.

I may have missed it, but I don't recall M&M or GV stating that the SUV will get 30 highway. Did they? The thing has got to be heavier than the 2wd TR20, which has got to be the only one that *maybe*will get 30 highway. As I recall, a 2wd TR20 runs 4000 lbs...

Weight won't mean anything for the highway mileage, the Cd will though. I thik the SUV should have at least as good if not better aerodynamics so I expect it to hit 30 highway at least.

Hello that was a very good reveiew and I think Mahindra did what they set out to do. They made a product for a certain market and they accomplished that. Can hardly wait to get them here in Canada, give them a real test with our Canadian winters. That will tell the tale.

If you want better acceleration maybe you should get what I had several years ago. I had a 1983 Ford Ranger with a 255 V8 with an automatic, and dual exhaust. Thatis what they should have come out with form the factory. That was a truck, and a blast to drive. Wish I wasn't so stunned and sold it. All it needed was a higher speed rear end ratio put in it. Even with the lower speed rearend I still got mid 20's gor gas mileage.
