Default Mahindra Diesel Hybrid in 2011

While some people are anticipating the launch of the Mahindra diesel trucks formerly called Appalachian on February next year, a few people are more interested in the diesel hybrids they also announced they would bring to America. Unfortunately, because of the delay in their US debut, it is likely that the introduction of the first diesel hybrid trucks in America will start in 2011 instead of 2010. Global Vehicles said Mahindra told them that the hybrid version will come out one year after the standard diesel version. 2011 seems like a really long time from today, so for now, here are some details to expect about the Mahindra diesel hybrids, just to give you something to look forward to. Mahindra will be coming out with two-door and four-door mid-size diesel hybrid pickups much like their diesel-only TR20 and TR40 as well as diesel-only and diesel hybrid powertrains for their Scorpio SUV. I am very interested in this. Fuel economy is a high priority for me. I can't help but wonder if the hybrid will suffer in the towing/payload.

It shouldn't suffer too much.
Electric motors give you all the torque at start. No build up.
See what's happened with Chevy's Hybrid truck as far as numbers go.

Default hybrid power

I haven't read any details on what kind of hybrid they are planning to bring here, but one version they are selling in India doesn't have an electric drive motor- it simply shuts the standard engine off when sitting idle after a short pause, you restart it when it's time to go, thereby saving fuel. I don't think drivers here would take to it, especially those in city traffic. I'm not sure that qualifies as a hybrid, I'm just saying don't assume there is only one kind of hybrid.

I wondered about that. I think they are calling it a micro-hybrid system. I guess it would be helpful in city driving (no idling does save a pretty good bit of fuel). However, it better not add much to the cost if that is all it does.

Hey guys! Here's what you should read and know about:Ford and Toyota team up to make light hybrid trucks. When it comes to hybrids and light trucks, there's much to love. Ford and Toyota know this, which is why they're joining forces for something big. By 2025 when the CAFE standard doubles to 54.5 mpg, Ford and Toyota plan to be in the lead when it comes light hybrid truck production. I think this team up would be great and successful.
