"The Egyptian Mahindra Scorpio will have airbags, ABS, child locks among other safety features. The transmission is permanently sealed and doesn’t require oil top-ups or servicing that can put it in a potentially harmful position."

Ummm, permanently sealed? Like a BMW automatic? uhoh...

Default Fiesta 6 speed auto

The 2011 Ford Fiesta being released this summer has an available 6 speed automatic. It is sealed. It has a 150,000 mile life expectancy. That may be fine if they are designed to be easily replaced. I would hate to scrap a car because the sealed transmission wasn't repairable or available.

I know very little about the Mahindra 6 speed auto but I would like it to last longer than 150,000 miles. The diesel engine could last twice that long.

This is true, would hate for the transmission not to last closer to the life of the engine. Too bad they didn't bring the 6MT to America...

Interesting, wonder how many small diesel pickups have sealed trannys. I've changed the oil in my vw tdi auto tranny so it wasn't sealed. Strange.

By "sealed" I'm fairly confident that that means that it hasn't a dipstick to check fluid levels or re-fill. This is consistent w/ BMW (the only one I have experience with) where in order to "check" the fluid level, you have to remove the pan and measure the amount of oil coming out. Of course, that means that you have to drain the torque converter also, which is a PITA. There is an access hole (a bolted hole essentially) to install new fluid but that also is a PITA to get to. Either way, being that nothing is perfect, seals do weep and eventually the fluid level gets too low. Is how a friend got a very nice 2000 5 series for cheap. The owner was quoted several thousand for a new tranny 'cause it was slipping, and sold it to him. He put the thing in the air, found the bad seal, fixed that, replaced the fluid and it was fine (the guy is a whiz mechanically). three years later, it's still fine...

Still, a *commercial* truck w/ a 1 ton payload rating and u can't check the fluids? mmm, I guess we'll see. Still hopeful...

If I'm not mistaken the transmission in the F150 is sealed as well. yes that means there is no dipstick to check/add fluid

Default Mahindra 6 spd trans

I was told by a Mahindra dealer waiting for trucks that the transmission is made by a German company known a ZF for short. Here is a link.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG | Home | Driveline and Chassis Technology

So, do some research and post results. I wish I knew the trans model number going in these trucks so I can talk to a tranny guy to find out how/when/ if they are servicable for longevity.

Good luck..........J

ZF's are notoriously reliable, top. The interesting thing will be to see if they geared it right to work w/ the diesel...

Default RE Tanny life

As far as the tranny life expectancy goes, they are stating a 4/60000 bumper to bumper warranty. When we were introduced to the product as a future dealer we were told that the powertrain warranty will be between 150k and 250k. They have not narrowed that down for use in any of their updates. I can tell you the tranny is going to be expected to last if that is the case.
