Register to stop seeing this ad! Hey guys I m close to buy something else. Test drove both and I like both. Frontier have niecer and more goodies on LE, Tacome Trd Sport is very nice also. More likelly I will save 3k on Frontier, that I think is just as good.I just can't decide and I need your input. I need a 4 doors( crew cab) with long bed( not an option on both Off-road edition) it is not looking like Mahindra will be out until this fall ! There is so much that has to happen before dealers are trained, etc! So help me choose one of this, Frontier or Tacoma?!? Thanks! David |

I have the same problem. While walking around the autoshow today, I saw Tacos and Frontiers with EPA ratings at like 20MPG on the Highway. The 5.7 V8 Tundras, 5.4 V8 Fords, and the 5.3 V8 in the Chevy were getting 17+ MPG ratings on the highway. I would rather get a full size than the others.
If you are going to get one of those, I suggest the Suzuki Equator, better warranty than the Frontier I think, probably could work more money off one too.

Check out the Suzuki Equator.
It is a rebadged Frontier with a BETTER WARRANTY! (Oops! didn't carefully read TXBlackKnight's post but it bears repeating!) I'm still holding out for a TR20. Waiting allows me to get a bigger down payment and less owed on my '02 Tracker ZR2.

I owned a 2006 Frontier and really liked the truck a lot. It has a great V6 motor with lots of power and torque. At that time it was quite a bit more than what was offered in the Tacoma. The Tacoma's may have improved their V6 motors by now. The seats were very comfortable with plenty of thigh support for short or long trips. The cabin was fairly quiet for a pick up too. It was very reliable & dependable while I owned it too. I believe they're a great truck for the money.
Some of the areas that I wasn't thrilled about was the ride was a little choppy and tiresome on long rides. The size & price was so close to a larger 1/2 ton pickup that I wished I'd just gotten a larger 1/2 ton truck that has better ride qualities. MPG averaged between 17-19 which again was close to a larger 1/2 ton truck. The final straw for me was the fact that I didn't get the 4 door and I really wished I had so I sold it. If Mahindra doesn't come out with their pick up soon I may just explore a used 4 door Frontier. This time, however, I'll compare the Frontier to larger 1/2 ton trucks, instead of only a Tacoma, before I buy. I hope that helps you and if you have any questions just let me know. |

Thanks guys! The problem with the Suzuki Equator is that they do not make a long bed on 4x4. All 4x4 are short bed... I don't get that.
Yes, it seems that the Tacoma would slightly more economic than Frontier but not much. The problem is I used to have a Titan, and it killed me on gas, plus it was just too big for me. I am looking forward to something more agile, fun to ride, and hopefully just a little better with gas milage. I thought about F150, but the time I would get the double cab, etc would it will cost over 35K, plus, I don't think it would be as fun as the smaller ones to drive... And besides Frontier(equator) and Tacoma, there is nothing else that worth looking!!! So, please keep it coming... I would like more opinions. Thanks |

Hi Dave,
A few months back I test drove the Tacoma and the Frontier on the same day. What I liked about the Tacoma: Under the hood everything is where it should be and plenty of room to work under the hood. The oil filter was accessable from the front of the truck. You don't even have to climb under to change the oil filter (or the oil drain plug if you use a vacuum oil remover). Everything/fluids are at arms reach. I have not seen a better layout under a hood. The interior was ergonomically excellent and unmatched by any other vehicle I test drove (Taco, Frontier, Colorado, Dakota). I loved the way the back seat converts to under storage and flat space for mutts etc. I did not like the manual trans which surprised me. The 5sp auto delivered the power to the road way more efficiently especially on an on ramp situation. I liked the auto trans shifter that easily bumps from 5 to 4 which would be great in towing situations. This surprised me and I prefer a stick. Also, the Auto can tow 6000 the manual can tow 3500. I live in the winter rust belt. I loved the composite material box due to that. The cargo box quarter panels are screwed in place not spot welded. Hence, dented or rusted they can be easily replaced without major body shop hours. In the truck bed, the adjustable cargo hooks ON THE SIDES not the bottom are the way to go. The power inverter in the truck bed and the compartments in the sides of the bed are the iceing on the cake also. I can't find anything bad to say about this vehicle. I would buy one if Mahi were not coming.........I hope..........Will wait until Sept but not longer. Now the Frontier: The engine was great and more powerful than the Taco. Auto trans was great also. The interior was good but not as good as the Taco. I did not like the cargo hooks in the bottom of the truck bed since I think debris will fill the slots and cause problems. Still, a very good truck and several $k less qouted on price. I would buy the Tacoma if it was my choice between the two. Evaluate! Evalutate! Re-Evaluate then buy.........Good luck.
