Report: 2011 Ford F-150 to get 3.7L V6, 5.0L V8 and 3.5L Ecoboost V6 — Autoblog

Autoblog is reporting the 3.7 V6 the 5.0 V8 both from the mustang will replace the 4.6 and 5.4 motors currently used with an up rated ecoboost 3.5 around or over 400 hp and 400 lbs.

I think the big news is the anticipated 25 mpg highway on the V6. I assume this is a 4x2 application in a regular cab, etc, etc. but still the power is more than adequate for a regualr cab or extended cab so long as daily towing is not needed (like me)

the city MPG will probably still be weak but it will likely be the most efficient V6 out there, mid sizers included.

Default Ford F150

My work truck is a Ford F150. It really is a great vehicle. Throw in an ecoboost with better fuel economy, man that combination is going to be hard to beat in my book.

While I agree with you, my concern is that the ecoboost will be optioned up, so you can't get a "work truck" - this has been the model to date with the Flex and SHO cars.

Like I've said all along, I'm not waiting on a Mahindra, I'm waiting on this market to offer something I can get excited about. This might fill the ticket, and I'd have no qualms about buying a Ford. I'd rather see a new Ranger with the Ecoboost, but I'll have to take a look at these when they come out. Ford's kind of slow getting out of the gate, but they're headed in the right direction as I see it, and ahead of what passes for competition around here. I'm thinking the right truck will be on the market soon (next two years), if I can hold out long enough.

I need city mileage more than highway so I'll still be waiting for something better but if this V6 were in something lighter and more aerodynamic (Ranger!) then the city mileage would shoot up and I would likely consider this over a Mahindra too.

I do agree with most of the commentors on Autoblog that the 1/2 ton trucks have gotten too big. Who really tows 11,000 lbs in a F150 anyway. Anyone who regularly tows over 4000-5000 lbs around here as a 250/2500 truck. I want the money invested in making existing capacities cheaper rather than increasing capacity (at least for the mid sized and 1/2 tons)

The Mahindra hits home with the capacties I need, the durability of a diesel, etc etc but I don't appreciate how they are treating the release of this truck. Good thing I can wait but I know of a lot who can't.

Here's one beef about the F150 that applies to all the full size modern pickups- the bed height is so high you need a step stool to get to the things. Check out the last photo in the gallery with the article- it's a factory built-in step stool and hand rail so you can climb way up into the bed of the truck. I guess that's the price you pay for putting looks before function.

From what I have read you are right.. Common sense says that anyone paying 40-50 grand for a truck isn't going to be worried about mpg. It's the cheaper work trucks where people look for better mpg. I have also read that if Chevy does the diesel in the half ton it will be a $11,000.00 option lolol,, And yes Pee Wee All new full size are tooooooo darned talllllllll.. Almost useless as a work truck, unless you didn't make it in the NBA and need a real job.....

I highly doubt that $11k number. The 6.6 Duramax is only about $8k and that includes the tranny upgrade. I bet the actual cost will be more like $4000 or maybe $5000. that is still a lot of money to only save maybe $400-500 a year in fuel but the resale would also be higher so who knows what the net savings would be.

the height thing doesn't bother me much since I am 6'5" but it is nearly manditory to get the tailgate step and sissy bar to get up into the back of it.
