I have it on good authority that a "component" has been developed and is ready to go for a diesel Wrangler Rubicon. Said "component" is ready for production this year and does not appear to be for the European market. So yeah, we can pretty well expect a diesel Wrangler for 2011. I would think that other diesel Jeeps aren't far behind, so Mahindra had better get the Scorpio ready to rock in the USofA.

That is really good to hear! I have been waiting for this for a while and I even have a domain name that I've been waiting for quite a while to build on for the diesel wrangler. Go diesel go!

one of the editorials in last months Motor Trend mentioned a Fiat sourced diesel for the wrangler. If they put that in the four door wrangler, they have pretty much sold one to me.

a diesel for the Wrangler should have been a no brainer 15 years ago. Nice to see that they are fianlly listening to their customers and bringing what the people want.

I am not an off-roader but a diesel Wrangler has to be the best place to start outside of a Land Rover Defender with a diesel that we don't get in the states.

It's funny that Mahindra really made a name for themselves by stuffing their diesel tractor engines in the Jeeps they were building in the early 70's.

Sounds like Fiat wants Jeeps to be Jeeps again. No more Compass.

Sounds like a pretty cool deal as I have wanted a diesel Jeep for as long as I can remember. Even owned a Liberty CRD for one day until the salesperson crashed it on the way to delivering it to me. I can only hope that Jeep will offer it in a base model instead of what they did with the Grand Cherokee. I would be interested in it if I could get into one for mid 20k however if I had to go to a fully loaded version for over 30k that would be a little rich for my blood. As mentioned above I would like a Jeep that is a Jeep and not a luxury box. Just basics, low cost and reliability, not the stuffing of everything under the sun into the vehicle to drive up the cost. In looking over the advertising, it looks like that is what Mahindra has done in every market that they have gone into and this is the major reason that I am looking forward to their entry into the US market.

Okay, if they can do a diesel Wrangler, what in the Wide World of Sports is stopping them from doing the exact same thing to the Dakota?

Wow, that must have been a bummer! My brother has a CRD Liberty, and driving his is what turned me onto diesels in the first place. I ideally want a mid-size pickup, but I could certainly make a 4-door wrangler work if I had to.
I agree with the simplicity concept, I don't want any of these vehicles filled up with a bunch of electronic crap I don't need.

I bought a new 2005 CRD Limited. Now have 102k on it. Mileage in the 22-23 range mixed. Tons of torque, 4x4 is fun in the winter snow. Only negative is dealing with Chrysler. Own two will never own another. Chrysler is so hard to contact I'm not really sure they exist!

Small pick ups are the future of the market which was dominated by 150 and 1500s. Diesel is a great option. When "experts" say Americans do not want small pick ups that is flawed thinking. What option do we have? Buy a Silverado rated at 20 mpg or a Frontier/Tacoma for the same money and only get 17 mpg?????

I'll keep running the CRD, mileage improves with age, great tow capacity. Offer a solid pick up with 25+ mpg and I'm on it.
